Lou Gherig, one of the greatest and most humble profession athletes of all time died due to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gherig’s disease), as did Jim “Catfish” Hunter, also one of the greatest and most humble players to ever play the game, and he did it (for the most part) with the Oakland Athletics.
My grandma, Ammie, as we called her in my family, was one of the most humble people I’ve ever known, had an overwhelming passion for baseball, and was probably the greatest person I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She too died from ALS.
It’s kinda funny how life plays out like that.
I miss you Ammie, so so so very much. I love you. <3
